Everyday companies are making advancements in sports equipment technology designed to keep players safe from concussions. One promising development in this field is the “flexible football helmet” a product designed by Vicis that was recently written about in Wired magazine.

Jacob E. Resch, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at the UVA Curry School of Education, noted that, “Advancements in equipment and technology are needed to mitigate the risk of sport concussion in not only football but all sports. Though exciting, the general public should continue discuss advancements such as these with their certified athletic trainer or other health care professionals with expertise in concussion. As this article suggests, though promising, independent investigations are needed to fully support the use of advancements in helmet technology or any other technology to improve the safety of equipment-intensive sports such as football.”
